Opening brief
Friday, 30 October 2026. Research cutoff: 2026-10-30T12:03:11Z, equivalent to 08:03:11 ET / 19:03:11 WIB. Cash opens 09:30 ET / 20:30 WIB; this edition covers the session through 12:00 ET / 23:00 WIB. New York remains on daylight time, UTC−4. The exchange calendar shows a normal session; no unscheduled full closure was confirmed. Nasdaq calendar
Lean: cautiously bearish. Confidence: moderate on direction, low on an immediate opening entry. Three drivers matter: Amazon’s spending and cash-flow outlook, Intel’s disappointing forward guidance, and renewed oil-supply concerns. Nasdaq futures and semiconductor shares are underperforming, but Treasury yields are falling rather than confirming a fresh rate-driven selloff. Earnings and financing concerns offer a plausible explanation; simultaneous moves do not establish a single cause.
The next catalyst is Employment Cost Index at 08:30 ET / 19:30 WIB, still pending. Prefer a failed recovery and retest after the opening auction, ideally after the 09:45 ET Chicago PMI release. The strongest counterevidence is rapid cloud growth combined with lower yields. Invalidate the short preference if NQ accepts above its completed opening range, holds the retest and gains semiconductor/megacap confirmation. Overnight direction alone is not an entry signal. What changed after Thursday’s cash close
Amazon: growth versus cash returns. Revenue was $201.9 billion, GAAP diluted EPS $1.89, operating margin 13.9%, and AWS growth 39.3%. Trailing twelve-month free cash flow was negative $42.4 billion. The prior-year EPS comparison includes a $9.5 billion pretax Anthropic investment gain; it is not a clean operating comparison. Amazon release
S&P Capital IQ revenue expectations were $202.2 billion. A comparable adjusted-EPS benchmark was not reconciled, so no adjusted earnings surprise is asserted. Axios Fourth-quarter sales guidance of $240–247 billion surrounds, but has a midpoint below, the Reuters/LSEG estimate of $244.51 billion. The approximately $220 billion 2026 capital-spending plan was reiterated, not newly introduced. Reporting points to further spending growth next year. Reuters earnings coverage, AP
Intel: the outlook dominates the beat. Revenue was $16.5 billion; GAAP/non-GAAP EPS were $0.60/$0.52. GAAP/non-GAAP gross margins were 43.0%/44.1%. Fourth-quarter revenue guidance is $15–16 billion, with EPS of $0.10/$0.25 respectively. GAAP EPS includes $0.17 from escrowed-share remeasurement and $0.06 from investment gains, excluded from adjusted EPS. Intel filing Adjusted EPS exceeded the $0.40 consensus, but fourth-quarter revenue guidance missed Reuters/LSEG’s $17.07 billion estimate. PC weakness, manufacturing constraints and cash requirements qualify the AI-demand story. Reuters
Interpretation: strong AI demand can coexist with disappointing shareholder cash generation. The observed selling extends to Nvidia and the semiconductor ETF, while Microsoft and Alphabet show smaller additional declines. That supports a technology-led risk reduction, not proof of uniform market liquidation or precise index-point contributions. Apple has no newly verified earnings result in this research; its price move must not be attributed to an unreleased report. Apple IR
Energy and policy: fresh Reuters reporting links higher oil to continuing Hormuz shipping risks. Treat incident details as attributed reports, not independently established damage or lost production. Higher energy costs could pressure margins and inflation expectations; today’s lower Treasury yields show that this channel is not dominating every asset. No independently verified new US policy or trade announcement is added to the thesis. Reuters oil report

September PCE was released yesterday, not today: it is background already available before Thursday’s close. BEA Today’s after-close heavyweight earnings slate could not be comprehensively verified; an unavailable calendar is not evidence of no reports.
Joint macro test: softer labor costs with resilient activity could support recovery if yields stay lower and stocks respond. Weak activity with falling yields but persistent chip selling instead suggests growth concerns. Hot ECI followed by a yield rebound would reinforce downside risk. Judge the released details and actual cross-asset response together.
Ranked opening scenarios
1. Bearish continuation. After PMI, NQ accepts below the completed opening-range low: a closed two-minute bar outside followed by a separate failed retest, rather than a wick through support. Watch a breakdown-and-retest short with semiconductor weakness intact. Structural invalidation is reclaim and acceptance back inside the range above the retest swing. Objectives are the next same-contract low verified on the execution feed, then extension only if fresh structure develops. Stand aside if price is already extended or leaders recover.
2. Two-way auction. NQ repeatedly crosses its cash-session VWAP and neither range edge retains acceptance. Watch a sweep back inside the range, followed by a holding retest. Invalidate beyond the sweep extreme; the first logical objective is the range midpoint, then the opposite edge only if rotation persists. Avoid the middle and stop fading when an edge gains sustained acceptance.
3. Bullish recovery. A downside probe fails, semiconductor selling eases, and NQ reclaims the range high with a separate holding retest. Watch a reclaim-and-retest long. Invalidate below the reclaimed boundary and retest swing. Objectives are the next verified premarket swing and, only subsequently, higher overhead structure. Stand aside if Amazon/semiconductors keep making fresh lows or the breakout immediately returns inside.
Two-minute execution playbook
Use only breakout/retest and failed-break/reclaim setups. Acceptance is an operational condition, not a guarantee.
First five minutes: observe the auction, spreads and leadership; do not chase the gap. Minutes 5–15: record developing extremes and cash-session VWAP on your own feed. The 15-minute range is incomplete until 09:45 ET, exactly when PMI arrives; avoid anticipating either outcome.
Minutes 15–60: allow the release reaction to print, then require a completed two-minute signal and a separate retest. Define the structural stop before entry; skip trades whose next obstacle leaves inadequate room relative to that stop and costs. No fixed contract count or profit amount is specified without a risk budget.
10:30–12:00 ET: continue only while the chosen structure and leadership remain intact. Reassess around Chevron’s call. Repeated failed breaks, deteriorating liquidity or a new geopolitical headline return the desk to wait.
No-trade conditions
No verified same-contract structure; release still being absorbed; stale quotes; abnormal spreads; repeated VWAP crossings; conflicting semiconductor leadership; or an invalidation distance incompatible with the trader’s risk limit. Do not average into a failed thesis.
Desk card
- Lean: cautiously bearish; confirmation required.
- Best short: accepted breakdown and failed retest after PMI, with chip weakness.
- Best long: failed downside auction followed by accepted range-high reclaim and broader leadership.
- Invalidation: sustained range-high acceptance with a holding retest and semiconductor recovery cancels the short preference.
- Levels: no independently verified numeric technical levels; snapshots are not support/resistance.
- Next timed catalyst: ECI, 08:30 ET / 19:30 WIB; then PMI, 09:45 ET / 20:45 WIB.
- Avoid: chasing overnight losses or trading the unfinished opening range.
- Conditional edge: participate only when post-release acceptance shows whether earnings pressure survives lower yields.
Data limitations and final refresh
Numeric session highs/lows, profile, VWAP, order flow, dealer gamma and positioning were not independently established. Build them on NQZ26 with explicit cash/overnight boundaries; prior editions’ chart levels are not carried forward. The Metavulus calendar, headlines and previous edition were leads, not substitutes for verification.
During research, the delayed NQ snapshot improved from 28,774 to 28,789, while refreshed Treasury quotes established lower yields. These changes strengthen rebound caution without reversing the relative-weakness thesis. ECI remained pending; the refreshed headline feed supplied no independently verified development that changed the plan. This is a timestamped edition, not continuous monitoring.
